Bunions are an enlargement of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint. What that means to you is that it’s the bump on the inside of your foot. Some bunions are painful; some are not. The ones we want to take care of are the ones that cause problems. If it turns red, enflamed, gives you problems while walking, is hurting in your shoes, that’s what we want to address.

The conservative treatment is what we provide first in our Carolina Podiatry Offices.  We want to make sure you’re wearing appropriate shoes, and that they are not too tight around the toe box. From that, if foot surgery is needed, we’re here to perform that for you as well. Surgery will correct the bunion deformity, which is a structural change of the foot. It’s typically genetics. There are rheumatological reasons that can cause that. We will provide the care and treatment needed to correct your problem.
