"Foot and ankle conditions occur at any age. When do you bring a child in for an evaluation? When you are concerned. We see patients of all ages. I love children. I treat them like they were my own children.

Children actually have flat feet during a certain time frame of their lives, so some of it is normal. I hear too often from pediatricians that children will simply grow out of flat foot conditions. Not all conditions are necessarily going to be grown out of. Get an evaluation. Children might need orthotics for a short period of time to correct excessive pronation, which is the flattening of the foot. It can affect their gait, all the way up through their knees and hips as well as the back. You can correct that at an early age with conservative treatment by simply putting orthotics in their shoes. That’s what we want to do. "
